Meghan Markle is said to be seeking an apology from the royal family before making a return trip to the UK. This comes after she purportedly declined an invitation for her and her children to visit next month. However, according to sources, it seems unlikely that the royals will offer an apology in the near future. There has been a change in the dynamics of the relationships within the royal family following the cancer diagnosis of King Charles III and Kate Middleton.
A royal expert has disclosed that Meghan desires an apology from the royal family prior to her next visit to the UK. This follows the Duchess of Sussex’s reported refusal of a rumored invitation to bring their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the country.
Since Meghan and her husband stepped down from their positions as senior royals in 2020, she has had a tense relationship with the senior members of the royal family. In the years since, she has extensively detailed their various disputes and issues in different projects, such as an interview with Oprah and their “Harry & Meghan” docuseries on Netflix.
The news also surfaces after reports that Harry has been attempting a possible reconciliation with his family during his upcoming trip to London. Royal experts have opined that it’s improbable for both sides of the royal family to reach a compromise if Meghan doesn’t receive an apology. The expert said, “I believe that she is striving for an apology. She has been pushing for it for a considerable period, although there have been reports from the Sussex camp suggesting that she has somewhat given up on the idea of an apology.”
The expert further noted that she doesn’t think Meghan is “truly preventing” Harry from spending time with the other royals. She then referred to his recent visit to Charles in the hospital after his surgery was announced and his plan to visit again in May.
The expert added that Harry wishes for a reconciliation between the families, especially given the “shift” in the royal family since Kate’s illness. He also stated, “Harry and Meghan do feel the need to extend an olive branch, but Meghan’s sense of grievance is still impeding any truly significant progress. Illness often has the effect of bringing feuding family members together. And there have been hopes at Kensington Palace that Kate’s illness might achieve this.”
A source informed OK! Magazine that Meghan is hesitant, which might lead to Harry making the trip alone. The source elaborated that Harry is not pleased with this development as he desires a stronger connection to the UK for his family, especially after King Charles and the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis.
However, the source said, “It has now reached a point where Meghan doesn’t want to come to the UK with the children. She simply doesn’t feel safe. The situation now revolves around whether the family should travel with enhanced security or if Harry should go by himself.”
Another source pointed out, “He would prefer it if the entire family made regular visits to see his relatives and mend fences, but there are so many underlying issues that it’s not feasible at the moment.”
If Meghan were to visit the UK with Archie and Lilibet, she and Harry would need to make private arrangements for security. This is because the Sussexes lost their tax-payer-funded royal protection after moving to America. The Duke took this matter to court but recently lost the case. In a High Court ruling, Judge Peter Lane determined that RAVEC’s removal of Harry’s royal security by altering his status after he stepped down was not illegal.
