JD Vance has certainly made waves in Washington in a short amount of time, first as a senator and now as Vice President. Sworn in as Ohio’s senator in 2023, Vance quickly left that role to join the White House, serving alongside Donald Trump.

While President Trump is known for speaking his mind, Vance seems to have taken it to a whole new level, often making headlines for his blunt remarks. Whether you agree with him or not, it’s clear he’s not afraid to speak his truth—and it’s often controversial.
Vance has a colorful background. He served in the military, earned a degree from Harvard, and skyrocketed to fame with his 2016 memoir Hillbilly Elegy, which was even turned into a movie directed by Ron Howard.
His rise to political prominence came with clear ideas for change in the U.S., eventually aligning himself with Donald Trump. Vance became a U.S. Senator in 2022 and just two years later, he’s now the Vice President.
However, his approach as Vice President is unlike anything we’ve seen before. He doesn’t seem to shy away from making enemies or causing a stir. The most recent example of his behavior was his confrontation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Out of nowhere, Vance scolded Zelenskyy for not being more diplomatic, claiming it was disrespectful for the Ukrainian leader to speak out in front of the American media. Vance, who wasn’t even a Senator when Russia invaded Ukraine, seemed to forget the gravity of the situation and what his position demands of him.
