How to Clean Your Refrigerator’s Rubber Gasket
The rubber gasket on your fridge door is super important. It seals the fridge tightly when the door is shut, keeping cold air in. But a lot of people forget to clean it when they clean the fridge. They focus on the food compartments instead. After a while, dirt builds up in the gasket’s crevices, and sometimes mold grows there too. This looks bad and isn’t clean.
Here’s how to clean the dirt and mold on the rubber gasket:
- Using Vinegar
Mix water and vinegar in a 1:5 ratio. Add a few drops of regular household detergent. Dip an old toothbrush into the mixture. Scrub the fridge’s rubber gasket well to get rid of all the dirt and mold stains. After scrubbing, use a clean cloth to dry the gasket.
The gasket has small crevices. Sometimes, a cloth or brush can’t reach all the dirt. In that case, take a thin paper towel. Wrap it around a card (like a bank card or loyalty card). Slide the wrapped card along the crevices. This makes it easier to remove the dirt. - Using Baking Soda
Mix baking soda with vinegar or fresh lemon juice to make a paste. Dip a toothbrush in the mixture. Scrub the whole rubber gasket to clean off the dirt. Then, dry the area with a clean cloth. Just like with the vinegar method, you can use a paper – towel – wrapped card to clean the crevices. - Using White Alcohol
Soak a clean cloth in white alcohol. Wipe the whole fridge, scrubbing any stained or moldy parts. Then, use a damp cloth to wipe the fridge again. This gets rid of the dirt and any leftover white alcohol. - Using a Mold – Removal Solution
For really stubborn mold stains, you might need a special mold – removal solution. Follow the directions on the product label. When using a mold remover, wear gloves to protect your hands from the chemicals.
After removing the mold from the rubber gasket, wipe it one more time with a clean cloth. This gets rid of any remaining dirt and cleaning chemicals.
These ways will help you clean and take care of your fridge’s rubber gasket. It will stay clean and work well.
