She was shoved into a backpack and set on fire with gasoline – now she’s finally getting the happy ending she deserves

Some stories break your heart, but they also remind us of the incredible resilience of animals and the kindness of those willing to help. That’s the case with Phoenix, a dog who endured unthinkable cruelty but has fought her way back to health thanks to love and care.

In February 2024, a woman in Nixon, Texas, found a dog crying in pain on her porch. The puppy, later named Phoenix, had been tied up, shoved into a backpack, and set on fire.

Rescue group 4 Little Paws rushed Phoenix to emergency care. Her injuries were severe—her skin was burned and hardened, her fur was gone, and her ears had to be amputated. Yet, through it all, Phoenix remained gentle and trusting.
