These four women recreated a photo 52 years after their first vacation without their parents in Torquay, England…

In 1972, four teenage girls from Yorkshire took their first vacation without parents to Torquay, England. They snapped a special photo—arms linked, colorful outfits, strolling along the promenade.

Fast forward 52 years, and Marion, Susan, Mary, and Carol decided to recreate that moment. They traveled 322 miles back to Torquay, hunted down 1970s-style outfits, and captured the same joyful scene—this time reflecting on how their friendship has stood the test of time.

In 1972, the girls, then 17, embraced their freedom—drinking cider, swimming in a small pool, and staying in a caravan. A photographer had captured the original moment when they linked arms, a memory they cherished for decades.

Recreating the photo wasn’t easy. The hotel in the background was gone, and finding matching outfits meant scouring charity shops and online stores. But despite the challenges, they laughed and reminisced, celebrating their lifelong bond.

Now in their late 60s, the friends still share daily messages and support each other through life’s ups and downs. Their heartwarming story has inspired many, and they’re already planning their next adventure—off to Blackpool!
