Even the most seasoned travelers fear losing their luggage during a trip.
To reduce the risk of their luggage being taken by another passenger or seeing it continuously revolving slowly on the conveyor belt, travelers are affixing colorful ribbons to their suitcases to make them stand out.
However, according to John, a baggage handler at Dublin Airport, these commonly used tricks do more harm than good.
It can turn your worst travel nightmare into a reality. So, leave the ribbon at home.
When speaking to RSVP Live, John stated that tying identifying ribbons on your luggage can cause delays, meaning your belongings might miss the flight.
“Ribbons that people tie on their suitcases to aid in identification can cause issues with the bag being scanned in the baggage hall,” John told the outlet. “If the bag cannot be scanned automatically, it will end up in manual processing, and your bag may not make it onto the flight.”
Checking in your suitcase without any identifiers such as ribbons and old travel stickers increases its likelihood of arriving safely.
