The Palace has reported that 73-year-old Princess Anne suffered minor injuries and a concussion during an incident at the Gatcombe Park estate in southwest England. Her medical team determined that the head injuries were consistent with the impact from a horse’s head or legs, which also led to her experiencing temporary memory loss.
Christopher Andersen, the author of “The King,” told Fox News, “For the past few years, Zara Tindall has been concerned that the palace has been relying too much on her mother, who is in her seventies.”
He further added, “She has a valid point. Princess Anne is often described as the hardest-working royal, with 457 engagements last year alone. She has always been seen as indefatigable and even invincible. When Zara saw her mother lying in a hospital bed with a severe concussion and memory loss, it’s understandable that she was deeply shaken.”
“And this means that more responsibilities will shift onto Prince William and Queen Camilla. Keep in mind that the queen will turn 77 next week, and King Charles is understandably worried about the impact of all this stress on her health as well,” Andersen noted.
“Only so many things can go wrong before the monarchy itself starts to look unstable,” he continued.
After the incident involving Princess Anne, the Palace promptly updated information about her schedule. As reported by Gert’s Royals, it was stated, “The diary on @RoyalFamily website has been updated to remove Princess Anne’s engagement next week, as she is still recovering from her accident last month.”
Anne was scheduled to visit the NLV Pharos ship off the west coast of Scotland as the Patron of the Northern Lighthouse Board on July 15 and 16.
A source told OK! Magazine that the incident left her daughter “extremely shaken” and added, “She’s fervently hoping this memory loss is only temporary. This has been a major wake-up call for the entire family, and they’re understandably distressed.”
Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner told Fox News, “Princess Anne is very strong-willed and will be determined to return to work as soon as possible while also following the advice of her medical team. Certainly, this has caused problems for the royal family, as Anne has an impressive track record in the number of events she attends each year. It’s just another headache for King Charles as he tries to establish his version of a streamlined monarchy while also covering all the scheduled events each year.”
The Princess was discharged from the hospital on June 28, and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, provided an update on her condition.
“She is recovering well, thank you. We are both extremely grateful to the medical team and hospital support staff for their excellent care – and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful at the scene,” he said.
He also added, “We are both deeply touched by all the kind messages we have received from so many people, near and far. It means a lot to us.”
Anne remains highly respected in equestrian circles. She took part in Trooping the Colour on June 15, riding alongside William and Prince Edward. A widely shared video on X showed her proficient horsemanship during the military parade in London, highlighting her skills as an equestrian.
We offer our prayers for her full and speedy recovery.
