lthough it would have been an honor for her to be the queen of Tex-Mex, Danna Paola had to reject the role for a reason.
Danna Paola could have been the perfect Selena Quintanilla in the Netflix series. Why? The singer
auditioned and landed the lead role. However, for some compelling reason, she had to turn down the role.
Anyone would think Danna Paola’s career is more than complete. Successful in an international series, an urban singer, and hailed by many as the princess of Latin pop. But to achieve this, there are many sacrifices that even her fans are unaware of, such as turning down projects to pursue others.
Danna Paola was recently a guest on Juanpa Zurita’s podcast, “Don’t Do It Easy ,” where she shared some of the biggest challenges she’s faced in her professional career. Music, without a doubt, is one of the most difficult.
Danna Paola had to turn down participating in the fourth season of Élite and the Selena series so she could dedicate herself to music. The decision definitely wasn’t easy.
Danna Paola confessed that when they were finishing filming the second season of Élite, she was informed that she had landed the role of Selena Quintanilla in Netflix’s “Selena: The Series.” At the same time, the producers of Élite were looking to negotiate her participation in a fourth season. All while she only dreamed of making music.
“It was super difficult. It was a huge revelation, but above all, it was really funny because it was with a numerologist […] I dedicated myself to it and started composing music, I released my songs, and ‘Mala Fama’ came out during the filming of the second season of Élite. The contract didn’t end until the third, and they told me, ‘We’re going to renegotiate for the fourth season,’ and I didn’t know what to do,” said Danna, assuring that during that time she had also auditioned for Selena.
“I auditioned for Selena in Spain and got it. The hardest part was arriving, knowing I already had the role and the fourth season of Élite. But what about my music? I’m just starting out, it’s doing well,” she continued. She even met with her co-stars from the series, including Ester Expósito, to find out what they would decide.
It wasn’t until an appointment with a numerologist that Danna Paola realized she had to choose music. “He told me, ‘You have the number six, it’s creativity, it’s art, it’s music,’ and I started crying and going to therapy with the numerologist. He told me, ‘Danna, in your life’s mission, you’ve always believed you were the actress who sings… mistake: you’re the singer who acts,’ and I started to cry . “
So, Danna Paola decided to listen to her heart and take control of her life. Of course, it’s a decision she doesn’t regret, as she’s now one of the biggest Latin music stars. If you’re looking for a sign to follow your dreams, this is it.
