How to Get Rid of Moths in Kitchens and Bathrooms
Moths are a type of bug that often show up on the walls of kitchens and bathrooms. They have a lot of fine hairs all over their bodies, which makes them likely to carry pathogens. They can contaminate food and spread diseases. Although moths aren’t very active and have a relatively low ability to spread mechanical diseases, they can spread diseases related to Escherichia coli. If you’re struggling to get rid of them, here are some simple methods.
Method 1: Cigarette Butt Water
Soak used cigarette butts in water. Stir the water well to help the substances in the cigarette butts dissolve faster. Cigarette butts contain nicotine and tar, which are great for killing insects or repelling mosquitoes. The soot on the butts can also help by increasing the effectiveness against insect eggs.
Once the water turns yellow, scoop up the cigarette butts and pour the water down the drain. This will kill the eggs in the drain and get rid of small flying insects in the pipes. Pour a bowl of this cigarette – butt water down the drain once a week to keep your home bug – free. It’s a cost – free way to turn waste into something useful.
Method 2: Insecticide and Wet Towel
Roll a wet towel around the floor drain. Then, point the nozzle of an insecticide can at the drain opening and spray a few times. Use the wet towel to wrap the area around the drain to stop the insecticide smell from spreading.
After spraying, use the wet towel to seal the drain. Open it a few hours later. This method can effectively kill small flying insects in the pipes.
Method 3: Boiling Water, Glutinous Rice Flour, and Dishwashing Liquid
First, boil a kettle of water and pour half of it down the drain. This will break up the oil film in the drain and destroy any bug eggs there.
Next, prepare a container. Put about three spoons of glutinous rice flour in it and add two drops of dishwashing liquid. Dissolve them in hot water. Using a bit less water will make the mixture more concentrated and effective. Let the flour dissolve completely.
Then, pour this alkaline – like mixture directly down the drain. The strong alkalinity can kill the eggs, and the dishwashing liquid helps clean the drain and prevent bad odors. After pouring, you’ll see heat rising from the drain. Wait quietly for five minutes.
Finally, boil another pot of hot water and pour it all down the drain. Do this cleaning once a month, and you can keep your home free of small flying insects all summer.
