I shook her hand. “Nice to meet you. You know, except for the fact that you broke into my apartment.”
“Technically, I was invited,” she said with a weak laugh. Then she straightened up. “You know what? I want revenge.”
Michael grinned. “Oh, we can make that happen.”Michael and I exchanged a look. Sonya’s sudden determination for revenge was both unexpected and rather appealing. After all, Nick had caused quite a stir, not just in our relationship but also in Sonya’s life.
Michael leaned forward, his eyes lighting up with a mischievous glint. “So, Sonya, what kind of revenge do you have in mind? Because I’ve got a few ideas myself.”
Sonya sat down at the kitchen table, her brows furrowed in concentration. “Well, first of all, we need to teach him a lesson about honesty. He can’t just go around using your name and your place to deceive women.”
I nodded in agreement. “Absolutely. But we also need to make sure it’s something that will really stick with him. Something he won’t forget anytime soon.”
Michael snapped his fingers. “I know! We’ll set up a fake date for him. We’ll make it seem like it’s with a super – wealthy, high – profile woman. But when he shows up, it’ll be a complete disaster.”
Sonya’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “That’s brilliant! And we can film the whole thing. Then, if he ever tries this again, we can threaten to expose the video.”
I couldn’t help but smile. This plan was starting to come together nicely. “Okay, but we need to be careful. Nick is pretty sneaky, and he might catch on if we’re not subtle.”
We spent the next few hours planning every detail of the trap. Sonya used her charm to get Nick’s phone number from the dating app, and then she sent him a message from a fake account. She described herself as a successful businesswoman who had seen his profile and was intrigued.
Nick, of course, fell for it hook, line, and sinker. He replied almost immediately, flirting shamelessly and agreeing to meet at a fancy restaurant the following night.
The next day, Michael and I went to work. We called in some favors from our friends to help us stage the perfect disaster. One of Michael’s buddies, who was an actor, agreed to play the role of a jealous ex – boyfriend who would show up at the restaurant and cause a scene.
I spent the afternoon decorating a large, gaudy sign that said “Nick, the Liar” in bright neon letters. Sonya found a group of street performers who were willing to show up and start a mock – protest outside the restaurant, holding signs with embarrassing facts about Nick (most of which were true, thanks to Michael’s detailed knowledge of his brother’s misdeeds).
As the sun started to set, we all made our way to the restaurant. Sonya was dressed to the nines, looking every bit the part of a sophisticated businesswoman. She took her seat at the reserved table, while Michael and I hid in a nearby corner, ready to spring into action.
Nick arrived right on time, looking smug and confident. He sat down across from Sonya, and they started chatting. After a few minutes, the actor playing the jealous ex – boyfriend burst through the front door of the restaurant.
He stormed over to their table, pointing at Nick and shouting, “What do you think you’re doing with my girl?” Nick’s face turned pale as he tried to explain, but the ‘ex – boyfriend’ wasn’t having any of it.
Just then, I ran in from the side, holding the neon sign high above my head. The street performers followed me in, chanting, “Nick, the Liar! Nick, the Liar!”
The entire restaurant turned to stare. Nick looked like he wanted to crawl under the table and disappear. Sonya, trying to keep a straight face, stood up and said, “You really thought you could get away with it, didn’t you?”
Nick stammered, “I… I can explain.” But it was too late. Michael stepped forward, holding a camera. “We’ve got it all on tape, Nick. And if you ever, ever pull a stunt like this again, this video is going straight to everyone we know.”
Nick hung his head in shame. “I’m sorry,” he mumbled. “I won’t do it again.”
We left the restaurant, feeling satisfied that justice had been served. Sonya turned to us and said, “Well, that was quite an experience. Thanks for including me in this crazy plan.”
Michael grinned. “Anytime. And who knows, maybe this will finally teach Nick to be a better person.”
As we walked away, I couldn’t help but laugh. It had been a wild ride, but in the end, we had managed to turn a potentially disastrous situation into a hilarious revenge plot. And who knew, maybe Nick really would learn his lesson this time.
