We’ve all been there—discovering holes in our favorite clothes. If you’re lucky enough to avoid this, congratulations on your wardrobe rotation! For the rest of us, dealing with small rips or holes in t-shirts and dresses is a common (and annoying) experience.
So what causes these mysterious holes? While moths are a well-known culprit, they’re not always the issue. Sometimes it’s simply wear and tear, or a snag on something like a zipper, belt buckle, or rough surface. If the holes are near your midriff, your belt might be to blame—try adjusting it, or consider sanding down any rough edges.
Washing habits also play a role. Overloading the washing machine or washing items with beads or buttons the wrong way can cause damage. And, if you use chlorine bleach, be cautious—it can weaken fabrics and create holes.
Finally, keep an eye on rough surfaces like brick, stone, or nails that might catch your clothes.
