Every shelter dog dreams of a forever home, but some, like Rocky, keep getting overlooked, and their hope begins to fade.
A heartbreaking photo of Rocky, a 3-year-old pit bull, recently went viral. In the picture, he sits alone in his kennel, head hanging low, as if he knows he’s been passed over yet again.
Rocky’s story is filled with setbacks. He’s been at Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, since October 2022, when his family was evicted and could no longer keep him. Since then, he’s been adopted twice—only to be returned—plus a few short trial periods that didn’t work out.
“He’s a wonderful dog,” said Lindsay Brewer, a communications specialist at the shelter, “but he needs a specific kind of home: adults only, no other pets.”
Despite more than a year of heartbreak, there’s still hope for Rocky. The shelter is determined to find him the loving, patient family he deserves.
