The 3 a.m. Push Request That Went Sideways

Waking someone up in the middle of the night is bold. But knocking on their door for help? That’s next-level.

One freezing night, my husband and I were jolted awake by loud pounding on the door. Annoyed, he groggily got up to see who had the audacity to disturb our sleep.

Standing on the porch, drenched and shivering, was a stranger.

“Excuse me,” the man said politely. “Can you give me a push?”

My husband scowled. “Are you serious? It’s three in the morning! And it’s freezing!”

With that, he slammed the door and stomped back to bed.

“Who was it?” I mumbled sleepily.

“Some guy wanting a push,” he grumbled.

“And you didn’t help him?” I asked, giving him a look that spoke volumes. “Remember when our car broke down last winter? Didn’t some kind strangers push us out of that ditch? Maybe it’s our turn now.”

With a reluctant groan, he threw on his coat and trudged outside into the cold.

“Hey, where are you?” he called.

“Over here!” the man’s voice answered.

“Where exactly?”

“On the swing set!”

The look on my husband’s face when he walked back inside—soaking wet and seething—was priceless. 😆
