From Good Friday on April 10 to May 10, the convent lost 12 sisters aged 69 to 99. A 13th, Sister Mary Danatha Suchyta, passed away on June 27 at 98 after 80 years in the order.
“We grieve for each of our sisters lost during this pandemic,” said Sister Mary Christopher Moore, provincial minister for Our Lady of Hope. The convent, now home to 44 sisters, had 57 in April before the virus took its toll.
In response to the outbreak, the Felician Sisters have implemented strict protocols, including visitor bans, livestream Masses, and changes to communal activities, to protect those still recovering from the virus’s lingering effects.
