McConnell Falls Down Senate Stairs After Casting Vote

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell took a tumble down the stairs at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, sparking fresh concerns about his health. Fox News correspondent Chad Pergram was the first to break the news on X (formerly Twitter), sharing that McConnell had fallen after voting to confirm Scott Turner as HUD Secretary.

“Fox confirms. McConnell falls down Senate stairs after voting to confirm Scott Turner as HUD Secretary. Unclear about injuries. But Fox is told he appears to be ok. McConnell was helped up by Sens. Steve Daines (R-MT) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK),” Pergram tweeted.

Several weeks ago, McConnell’s health was under the spotlight after a photo surfaced showing him looking frail following another fall. The 82-year-old Republican leader has faced multiple health scares over the years, including falls that resulted in serious injuries, such as a concussion.

When McConnell fell, Capitol staff and the press rushed to his side, eager for updates. An image of the Senator in a wheelchair quickly went viral, sparking conversations about his ongoing health issues.

Spokesperson Offers Update

After McConnell’s fall late last year, his spokesperson confirmed the 82-year-old had tripped following lunch, sustaining a minor facial injury and a sprained wrist. The spokesman assured the public that McConnell was cleared to resume his duties.

“Leader McConnell tripped following lunch. He sustained a minor cut to the face and sprained his wrist. He has been cleared to resume his schedule,” the spokesperson stated.
