A Love Lesson I Learned From My Parents

I was anxious about my dad’s health, but as I wiped away the tears rolling down my cheeks, I realized something that hit me hard—THIS is marriage.

Marriage isn’t about grand weddings, fancy date nights, or hours spent binge-watching shows together.

Marriage is found in the quiet, unspoken moments, in the darkness, where one spouse helps the other through the most difficult, vulnerable times—times no one else would ever see.

As children, we grow up watching fairy tales—happy endings, perfect beginnings, and laughable in-betweens.

But true love is forged in the tough spots. It’s when two people lean on each other, vulnerable and raw, trusting each other with their deepest fears and struggles.

That night, sitting on my bed, I knew it was time to stop bouncing between relationships. I wanted my future to mirror my parents’—imperfect but beautiful.

Their marriage had its ups and downs, but I had seen a kind of love that would stay with me forever.

It reminded me that marriage is found in the hardest places of life—even in a bathroom.
