When she got back to her office, Svetlana asked carefully:
“Are you okay? That guy was… kind of strange.”
“I’m fine,” Anna said, and for the first time in a long time, she really meant it.
She walked up to the window and watched the city down below.
People were hurrying around, cars were honking, and the chestnut trees were in bloom. In the reflection of the glass, she saw her own face, the face of a woman who wasn’t afraid of anything anymore.
“You’re nobody without me.”
Now, those words didn’t have any power. They were just echoes of a past that she could finally leave behind.
Anna smiled and went back to work. A new project was waiting for her, her team, and her new life, completely her own.
