The Handyman, the Bulldog, and the Parrot: A Lesson in Following Instructions
Being a handyman is never dull—every day brings a new challenge, a new home, and sometimes, an unexpected surprise.
But if there’s one universal truth in the repair business, it’s this: always listen to the homeowner’s instructions. One slip-up could mean disaster—just ask the repairman in this story.
A Simple Fix… with a Strange Warning
Laura’s dishwasher had broken down, so she called a repairman. Since she wouldn’t be home, she left him a note with clear directions:
- The key is under the mat.
- Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and she’d mail him a check.
- And most importantly…
“Don’t worry about my bulldog, Bob. He won’t bother you. But whatever you do, DO NOT talk to my parrot! I repeat—do NOT talk to my parrot!”
The Job Begins… and the Trouble Starts
The next day, the repairman arrived and found a massive, terrifying bulldog sprawled on the carpet. But, just as Laura had promised, Bob didn’t move a muscle.
He simply watched the handyman go about his work.
The parrot, however, was another story.
From the moment the repairman stepped inside, the bird wouldn’t shut up—screeching insults, hurling curse words, and taunting him relentlessly.
For hours, the handyman gritted his teeth, determined to ignore the obnoxious bird. But finally, he’d had enough.
He turned around and snapped: “Shut up, you stupid, ugly bird!”
A brief silence.
Then, with chilling calmness, the parrot replied: “Get him, Bob.”
